This article presents a novel 3D inverted pendulum that can balance on one of its corners using only single reaction wheel. is achieved by careful design the mass moment inertia in such way along two principal tilt axes significantly different. The consequence time-scale separation underlying dynamics, which renders system controllable. We show controllability maximized when ratio values amounts to square silver and discuss sensor placement minimizes variance our estimates. Both these aspects lead principled system. A model derived from first-principles used for delay compensation, state estimation, linear-quadratic regulator stabilizes highly underactuated upright equilibrium. Thereby, modeling compensation cantilever deflections, arise lightweight design, crucial. includes experimental results, underline efficacy highlight an excellent balancing performance proposed feedback controller.
